Dr. Samir Bal
Principal
Kurseong College

The college stands in a sylvan surroundings on the Dowhill Road in its own land measuring 9.04 acres out of 20 acres originally given on lease by the Government of West Bengal. Besides, a private trading concern M/S Hardeodas & Co. (Pvt.) Ltd., Kurseong also donated 3 acres of land to the college in the same area. Kurseong presented a dismal picture in the sphere of collegiate education in the fifties and sixties. The Government of West Bengal constituted Darjeeling Enquiry Committee in 1955 which recommended the need for a degree College at Kurseong. The college thus started as a modest night college with part-time teachers in 1967. Since it had no building of its own, classes were held at Darjeeling Polytechnic Institution at Kakina House, Kurseong. The college shifted to its own building constructed by the West Bengal Government in 1977 and became a day college.

Many eminent citizen of the town have contributed a lot for the setting up of this college. Mention may be made of Late D. B Chettri and Late Maya Devi Chettri, the then MP from Darjeeling constituency, Late P. T. Lama, the then Chairman, Kurseong Municipality, Late C. B. Gurung, the then Vice-Chairman , Kurseong Municipality , Late N. N. Pradhan , Late K. S Hamal and Late P. R. Giri.
